Camping with Kids at Lynx Lake in Prescott, AZ

Camping with kids can be an incredibly rewarding experience for both parents and children. It’s a chance to bond with each other, disconnect from technology, and enjoy the great outdoors. Camping provides an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature.

I guess we have always been outdoorsy but we never attempted camping with our daughters before. This month was our first time camping with our kids who are going to be 7 and 3. Luckily, we found an amazing campsite at Lake Lynx Prescott for 2 nights. When camping with kids, however, there are some additional considerations to keep in mind to ensure that the experience is safe, enjoyable, and memorable for everyone involved. In this article, we will explore some tips and tricks for camping with kids.

1. Involve Kids in the Planning Process – Get your kids involved in the planning process for your camping trip. Ask for their input on activities they want to do, meals they want to have, and what they want to see or explore. This will make them feel more invested in the trip and more excited about it.

2. Set Realistic Expectations – It’s important to set realistic expectations when camping with kids. Don’t expect everything to go smoothly or perfectly. Kids may get tired or grumpy, weather conditions may not be ideal, and unexpected things may happen. Be prepared to go with the flow and adapt to changes as they arise. Bring along some books, puzzles, or board games to play during downtime or inclement weather.

3. Choose the right campsite and Pack for Comfort – Look for a campsite that is family-friendly, with amenities like restrooms, showers, and potable water. Make sure you pack for comfort when camping with kids. Bring warm clothes for chilly nights, comfortable sleeping bags and pillows, and extra blankets if needed. Bring a first-aid kit and any necessary medications. Also, don’t forget to pack toys or games to keep the kids entertained.

4. Emphasize Safety – Safety should always be a top priority when camping with kids. Make sure your campsite is secure, teach your children about fire safety, and make sure they know the boundaries of where they are allowed to explore. Also, ensure that everyone wears appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking or other outdoor activities.

5. Be Flexible – Camping with kids can be unpredictable, so it’s important to be flexible and adapt to changes as they occur. Be prepared for unexpected weather changes or changes in plans. Allow for downtime and relaxation, as well as time for fun activities.

And, lastly just be with nature and relax, rejuvenate your mind and soul.
